Do I need an account?
No. Every feature — tests, practice, games, dashboard, certificates — works fully signed out, saved to this device automatically. Creating a free account additionally syncs everything across your devices and lets you join the public leaderboards.
Where is my data stored?
Always on this device first, in your browser's local storage. If you create an account, it's also synced to your TypeGenius account so it follows you to another device — otherwise nothing leaves this browser.
How do I get a certificate?
Reach 40+ WPM on any completed test, then visit the Certificates page and click "Generate Certificate." It downloads as a PDF instantly — no account required. Signed-in certificates can also be verified from any device on the Verify page.
How do the leaderboards work?
There are two boards — typing speed (best net WPM, with all-time, monthly and weekly views) and race rating — each worldwide or per country. You only appear if you sign in and choose to join, under a public nickname you pick; your real name and email are never shown, and you can leave any time. Your own best runs are always listed on the Leaderboard page, whether or not you join.
Can I use my own text for practice?
Yes — the Custom Tests page lets you paste in any text (at least 20 characters) and turn it into a replayable typing test.
How is WPM calculated?
Gross WPM counts every typed character (correct or not) divided by 5, over elapsed minutes. Net WPM subtracts incorrect characters, so it reflects effective, usable speed.
Is TypeGenius free?
Yes, entirely free, with no ads and no account required to use any feature.
